The little church the wind almost blew down.
("I'll huff and I'll puff, and I'll blow your house down. ")
Remember when you were a child and you heard the
story of the Three Little Pigs? I
don't know about you, but that was a scary story to me. The wolf had the power
to make the little pigs homeless.
Albert, one of our security guards at Awelani, asked
if we might be able to help him a little. He took us to see what he meant. The
little red brick building stood fragile against the wind. Albert timidly asked
if we could get him some cement to plaster this little church he pastored. They
needed to plaster the inside and outside of this frail building to protect it
from the stiff African winds that threatened to blow it down. It was unsafe. He
had 3 bags of cement but it was 't enough. HHTH promised him 3 more bags
full.
The gift of cement.
(Six bags of cement to fight the winds.)
Knowing 3 bags would not do the job of plastering
inside and out, we delivered 6 bags.
Albert and his strong wife unloaded their prized cargo.
Albert inside his nearly plastered church building.
(Albert proudly showed us their newly plastered building.)
He told his church that they now had 6 bags more of
cement, but they needed 6 more bags to complete the job. Somehow they raised the money to get the
rest and had a "plaster party."
The outside after plastering.
(The ugly little duckling turned into a beautiful swan.)
The transformation was amazing. It was not only
stronger, but the building was also pleasing to the eyes. Albert's pride in what they all did was
heartwarming. Now that their building is safer, their next step will be to
cement in the floor.
Albert showing his gratitude.
(A
grateful Albert extends his hands in gratitude.)
This is a land in which "a little can go a long way.
" In this case, a little inspired a
lot of people to give a little more and they were all happy.
Albert gets material for curtains.
(Going one step further is even more fulfilling.)
HHTH knew the bare windows would allow the scorching
African sun to turn this little building into a furnace. They needed curtains.
So we looked through material we had from last year and found two very large
pieces of fabric that could do the job.
We stopped at the gate while Albert was on duty and gave him his
"curtains to be." Have you ever seen a
person beam like a star ⭐️? Albert was
radiant receiving this unexpected gift.
And we all lived "happily ever after..." or, at least for a good long
while.
Until next time,
With Love ❤️ from the Bush,
Sidney, Wayne, CJ, and Sam
