Jabu Chake (pronounced Jah-boo Chaw-key)
(Jabu, "The Chicken
Man.")
Please meet Jabu (short for Jabulani, which means
"happiness"). He cooks for us at
Awelani and he is a young man full of potential. He is respectful and kind with
a Dream in his heart to become a successful business man. Jabu wants very much to create a good life
for his wife, Fikile and their 7 year old daughter, Ubuhle.
As he becomes successful, he desires to then help his
village become successful.
Jabu and Fakili are a strong couple and are willing
to work tirelessly to create a good future for their family. They want to change
the script for their lives. Jabu and Fikile surely are the new generation of
South Africans who can turn their Africa from Junk Status, to a leading nation
of "winners!" And they will do it with
intelligence, sound working habits, discipline and integrity. They are willing
to work hard to create a better future for their family. So... HHTH decided to help them start a
broiler chicken business. It yields a steady income and teaches them to "make a
plan," follow a budget and save what is needed to buy everything they need from
their profits for their next batch of chickens.
The chicken coup takes shape.
(Jabu needed to build a fine chicken coup.)
This employed two men from his village. He
laid the sawdust; all the meds, feed, lights, waterers and feeders were in
place. Now all he needed were his one
day old chicks 🐣 🐥.
Boxes of chickens.
(Two boxes of chicks hit the road, bound for their new home.)
The trip was rough on the little guys. It stressed out many of them and several
went into "chick panic attacks." They
looked like they might keel over and die of chick fright. The Hero of the day,
Jabu, gave them stress meds in their water and the little guys fluffed their pin
feathers right out of trouble!
Jabu tip toes around his little peepers.
(Gentle giant, Jabu tip toes around his little peepers.)
Once they settled down, the chicks were all over the
place! They followed their "Chicken
Man" around like they had imprinted on him.
He was their "pied piper." In
no time, they knew how to get drinks and eat from their feeders. They also intuitively clustered around
their warming lights to keep dry and warm.
Jabu surveys.
(Jabu surveys his little "kingdom," or should I say "chickdom?" He is on his way to his dream.)
Jabu and Wayne say goodbye.
(Wayne congratulates Jabu and they say farewell.)
It was time to leave. Jabu loves Wayne and calls him my "madala "
- my "old man," with great affection in his voice. We believe in Jabu and his dream. He has worked hard to get his education and
prepare himself for an optimistic future. I know he WILL be the successful
business man his vision propels him toward.
A small "jump start" can launch his star.
When small things are mastered, a person has prepared
themselves for greater things. But it
all started with a vision, that lead to hope, that birthed a passionate
determination.
In the book of Proverbs we are encouraged by the
wisdom of Solomon.
"A
people without a
vision
will perish."
So, by logic, a person WITH a vision, will
flourish. God be with you Jabu.
Until next time,
With Love ❤️ from the Bush,
Sidney, Wayne, CJ, and Sam
